Free State
Diverse Hunting
Experience

Bordering the little-known independent nation of Lesotho, known as the “Mountain Kingdom,” the Free State boasts the highest mountain peak within the Drakensberg Mountain range, adding an unparalleled dimension to its landscape..

Hunting in the Free State:
Embark on a unique hunting journey in the Free State, where the landscape encapsulates the essence of contradiction. From expansive open plains, ideal for hunting Springbuck, Blesbuck, Black Wildebeest, and Zebra, to the breathtaking sandstone Maluti Mountains within the Golden Gate National Park, home to Eland, Waterbuck, Gemsbuck, and Mountain Reedbuck, this province offers a striking diversity of hunting terrain.

Species Available:
Embark on your hunting adventure with a diverse array of species available on quota, including Blesbuck (Common & White), Eland Cape, Gemsbuck, Hartebeest Red, Lechwe Red, Impala Southern, Jackal, Nyala, Ostrich, Porcupine, Reedbuck (Common & Mountain), Serval, Springbuck Common, Sable, Steenbuck, Vervet Monkey, Waterbuck, Warthog, Wildebeest Black and Zebra Burchells, among others, ensuring a comprehensive hunting experience tailored to your preferences.

Moolmanshoek Conservancy:
Nestled within the majestic Witteberg Mountain Range of the Eastern Free State, between the charming towns of Ficksburg and Rosendal, lies the esteemed Moolmanshoek Conservancy. Recognized as a Natural Heritage Site since 1994, this reserve owes its status primarily to the rare Mountain Bamboo flourishing in the valley, evolving into a thriving conservation sanctuary.

Defined by endless verdant pastures and mountain streams gracefully cascading down rock formations to create natural plunge pools, this landscape nurtures a thriving wildlife population. Cape Eland, Black Wildebeest, Springbuck, Ostrich, Zebra, and a myriad of other species flourish here, offering enthusiasts ample opportunities for wildlife encounters.

Hunting Season & Safari Duration:
With its year-round sunshine and favourable climate, the Free State offers excellent hunting conditions at any time of the year. Hunting safaris are available from March to October. We recommend a safari duration of 7-10 days for exploring one area (province) or a minimum of 10-14 days for two areas (provinces), allowing for optimal selection of trophy-quality animals. The duration of your safari can also be tailored based on the species you wish to hunt.

Accommodation:
After a day of exploration, return to the lodge where each room is thoughtfully designed to blend with the natural surroundings while offering modern comforts. Whether you prefer a cozy fireside chat or a soak in your private bath, your stay at the lodge promises pure relaxation. The air-conditioned rooms are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and fitted with fine bedding and linens for your added comfort. All housekeeping services and laundry are done daily.

Travel Details & Location:
Traveling in South Africa is simple, with most hunters arriving at OR Tambo International Airport and taking an onward domestic commercial flight to Braam Fisher International Airport in Bloemfontein, the closest airport to the hunting location with a 2.5-hour drive to the lodge. Alternatively, a short charter flight directly from OR Tambo International Airport to a Private Airstrip in the Ficksburg area is recommended for convenience. Upon arrival, you will be met by myself or a ZGTS representative, or your Professional Hunter, who will assist you with your rifles and luggage and accompany you to camp.

The lodge is situated in the Free State Province, approximately 330km from OR Tambo International Airport and 230km east of Braam Fisher International Airport, where you will be accommodated for the duration of your safari.

“South Africa is proven to be one of the most popular destinations for seasoned and first time hunters”.
